Calorie Counting!

Yes, I'm calorie counting. But not in the conventional way. I'm actually trying to gain weight, not lose it. So far, the tip I've received (from Brandon) has been to "eat peanut butter and bananas." We're on day two of my attempt to gain a few pounds, and yesterday I made a list of everything I ate, and it wasn't even 2000 calories! I read that you have to eat 500 extra calories per day for a week to gain one pound. Hmmm. That's a lot of extra food!

I'll make updates as I progress, but in the meantime, give me advice on how you gain weight--healthy weight, not just eating Big Macs and Krispy Kremes.

The only time that I have successfully gained weight involved eating a lot of Texas barbecue and Mexican food, and riding a bicycle several miles a day. I put on about 10-15 pounds and kept it for a couple of years. You can decide if that qualifies as "healthy weight"; I used the bike to rationalize that the weight gain was acceptable. ("It's all in the muscles!")

That said, I'll recommend the thing that is shunned by all of the recent trendy diets: Carbohydrates! Eat a lot of healthy ones, like whole wheat bread, potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal and such.

Well I have to say that they way I have had the most luck gaining weight, is to have a baby. It worked for me both times.
I was about 10 lbs. heavier after each baby was born than I was before I got pregnant.

Mike, I think you're right in that healthy, whole-grain carbs are a great way to gain weight.
Julie, I'm sure I'll have a baby in the near future...just not right now! However, I am counting on some extra poundage after that experience.
